Eleven keen LIS students and two advisors travelled to Nairobi, Kenya to the heart of the UN in Africa, to explore debate, diplomacy and solving real world issues.

The months of research, practice and preparation paid off, as students joined the 700 others in the East Africa Model United Nations event, making friends and learning how to improve the world. We enjoyed the actual UN campus and venue, and got to hear from the Secretary General of UNON as well as other distinguished speakers. In addition we were lucky enough to walk through a Kenyan forest, and go on a safari nearby.

Students participated in committees as diverse as Economics, Politics, Security Council, Human rights, Ecology, Special summits, and Historical decisions. We were recognized as having written excellent resolutions with 3 of our 6 submissions being selected to debate at the conference (from hundreds of submissions), and one being awarded as the top resolution in the Security Council, thanks to Ranya and Austin’s research and writing. Olivia was awarded as top speaker in her committee.

Everyone appreciated the opportunity and enjoyed their time, contributing to and learning from the event.
